What Were They Thinking?

For those of you blessed with skinny thighs and non-jiggly arms, you may be unaware of the big girl plight to find clothing that is decent. Being a fan of the amazingness that is forever 21, I was SO excited for their plus size line faith 21. While forever 21 sells some wacky stuff, they have a lot that is very nice and classy looking. The Faith21 line started off well-enough, but now, oh my. I am left wondering, "what in god's name are these people thinking?!" My main issue is with the skirts, dresses and pants. Here are some examples.

Cutout leggings? Like we need any more of our cellulite to show?

This skirt could work if you were a size 2, but you still would look like a street walker.

The goal here? To scare small children because they think my thighs are a wild animal about to attack them.

Oh. My. Lord. This doesn't even look good on the model. Literally, put a bra on hooker. And ladies, do NOT wear this.

I am all for women wearing what they want, and I know that some plus sized women might take offense saying "Just cause I'm big doesn't mean I can't dress sexy!". Here is what I have to say to you: dressing like this is how you end up on "What Not to Wear".

Phi Alpha Inductions

.
For those of you who don't know (and i'm assuming that is pretty much everyone who reads this blog) Phi Alpha is the honor society for Social Work. This past Sunday three lovely ladies were inducted and there was a small get together at our professor's home.

Mostly, I home stalked the entire time. Her house is AMAZING. Older home in a historic neighborhood near downtown Raleigh with lots of original woodwork and details. It was basically my dream home. So first I'm going to give some pics of this home and then some very special people.

Fresh lemonade and tea in vintage glasses? shut up.

Okay now for the people...

Emily, Jamie, Alisha

This is Jamie Rice, Isn't she cute? She house stalked with me.

This is Emily and her boyfriend Sam. Is her skin not to die for? She also loves Whole Foods.

This is Alisha. She is hilarious.

This is Sholonda and Lacey. They planned the event and did a FABULOUS job.

It was a lovely afternoon.

A few things...

Happy Thursday! As Robin Robert's says "only one more alarm clock this week"

(from someone's blog who I don't remember)

First, let's just talk about how gorgeous Caroline is. Candace and Jeff and Caroline had a little photo shoot and a very small sampling is on the photographers blog. Check it out and let your baby hormones go crazy because girl is stinkin' cute. Those eyes! Those EYELASHES! Oh my goodness.

Click Here! (scroll down past the first picture)

Secondly, If you aren't watching the show Parenthood or Parks and Recreation, you are seriously missing out. Set your DVR immediately.

Thirdly, I want to introduce you to the greatest iphone app ever created. Jtv. I visit this site everyday when I want some background noise or want to watch my fave shows on repeat. Users (illegally) stream video of movies, shows (like the office, the big bang theory, history, food) and NOW you can watch it on your iphone! Heaven!

Heaven.

Lastly, can we talk about how amazing this wedding invite is?

Monday Flowers...well Tuesday Flowers

Flowers for today are miss Amanda's project board that her florist created for her wedding. Love the lower middle bouquet! The Gerber's and Hydrangeas are GORGEOUS!

How ironic that the top left image is what I used as Monday Flowers a couple weeks ago!
Can't wait to see how they turn out!

Hibachi Style Chicken & Steak with Fried Rice

What you'll need:
-chicken breasts and beef, whatever you like, cut into peices
-brown rice
-2 eggs
-butter
-soy sauce
-2 onions (1 for rice, 1 for veggies), carrot and/or peas (frozen is fine), zucchini

This is my new most favorite dinner to make. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, I'll break it down for you guys so don't worry. It's like Kanki or Hibachi Express or whatever Japanese style you are used to.

Step One: Cook your rice and marinate meat. Use brown rice, it holds up better. You need to do this like an hour before you are ready to start cooking so that it can cool a little bit. Follow directions on bag, I have been using two cups (uncooked) rice for three people. To marinate: cut up chicken or steak or both and put in bag with little olive oil, soy sauce and salt & pepper. EASY PEASY! Cut up veggies ...onion, peas and carrots for rice, onion & zucchini for veggies.

Step Two. You are going to have three pans going at once.
Pan one is the meat, pan two is the fried rice and pan three is the veggies that you will later mix with the chicken. Heat enough veg. oil to coat bottom in pants one and three. In pan two, fried rice, heat enough olive oil to coat pan. HEAT ALL THREE MEDIUM HIGH HEAT (AROUND 8)

Step Three

To meat pan: add meat
To veggie pan: add veggies (onion, zucchini)
To rice pan: add veggies (onion, peas, carrots)

****This is where things get tricky, while meat and veggie pans are browning, in the rice pan you will need to move veggies to side and scramble two eggs. Once it has scrambled (only a few seconds) add in your rice and 2 tbsp of butter. ****

Step Four
Stir all three pans, if you have a fan in your stove turn that bad boy on.
Meat pan: stir and cook until browned on all sides, then add 2 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp soy sauce
Veggie Pan: stir until brown, after that add 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp soy sauce, add to finished chicken pan
Rice pan: Once your rice has cooked (about five minutes, stirring regularly) add 2 tbsp of soy sauce and serve.
Finished Rice

Finished meat and veggies:

Okay this may have been more confusing than I meant it to be, but It was difficult to follow three different recipes the first time I made this.

HINT: If you like the creamy white sauce they serve at restaurants, I would buy it there. I tried two recipes and both came out gross. I bought a pint from Hibachi Express...so much better!

Shrimp and Grits Attempt Numero Uno

Seriously, I have high expectations for shrimp'n'grits ya'll. My lovely friend Amanda has this great fiancee who makes the best shrimp and grits EVER. Well, like most men who cook, he doesn't really have a recipe. While waiting to hear from him, I decided to look up some recipe's online. Honestly, mistake. I should have been more patient and waited for instructions. The family said they liked it, but I knew it wasn't as good as the REAL recipe. So for now this is all you get. Sorry. Also, grits are freaking hard as heck to cook! The first time I burned them, and the second time they turned out lumpy. This shrimp and grits thing is harder than I thought.

In closing, I'm not giving you the recipe yet until I get it right, just so as to not steer you wrong dear readers. But here is something to make you look forward to it.

I have discovered new favorite flowers. Well..two of them but I will only reveal one today! I first saw these in photos featured over on high street market and had no idea what these gorgeous flowers were, but by chance I finally found out. Introducing RANUNCULUS! I have no idea if they are called something else but aren't they purty?!

The Best Hamburger EVER!

Okay...sidenote: I do NOT usually eat this much mayo. I squished the top of the bun and it all came out the sides...

You guys, I don't even LIKE hamburgers! I am not much of a beef eater so it takes something pretty damn tasty for me to eat it, let alone LOVE it and post a blog about it. Well this is IT readers. And yes, I may be a little too excited.

This magical hamburger secret is from Chris and Daniel, whose blog can be found here. They cooked for me and made these fabulous hamburgers a few weeks ago. Hey guys, if you get all pissed I'm spilling your secret let me know and I will remove the post, but I'll be angry.

Ok the secret is in the beef y'all. Two seasonings.

1. Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning. When making your beef patties you gotta get your hands dirty. Squish up the meat with seasoning...don't be shy. I used alot.

2. Johnny's Garlic Spread and Seasoning. Sprinkle this magical powder over the patty before you cook it. OH.MY.GOSH. Ah-mazing. I have gone to two grocery stores looking for this stuff and havent found it yet so i'm going to have to order it online.
After this, you can do what you want. I like white American cheese and plain old hamburger buns, but english muffins would be good too. Let the patty be your canvas! (over the top?)

Now Reading..

Oxygen by Carol Cassella. Today I was cleaning off a bookshelf and found this among them. I guess my mom bought it, it was bookmarked on chapter 2 so i'm guessing she didn't finish it. So far I really like it, you will too if you like medical or doctor sort of things. Not that you have to be into that stuff to read it, but it would probably help. Here is the opening (and what made me start reading!):

"People feel so strong, so durable. I anesthetize airline pilots, corporate executives, high school principals, mothers of well-brought-up children, judges and janitors, psychiatrists and salespeople, mountain climbers and musicians. People who have strutted and struggled and breathed on this planet for twenty, thirty, seventy years defying the inexorable, entropic decay of all living things. All of them clinging to existence by one molecule: oxygen."
-From "Oxygen" by Carol Cassella

What are you guys reading or what was the last good book you read?

Dress Forms

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of using vintage dress forms to display old jewelry or anything else! My Aunt has my grandmothers dress form and of course I am completely jealous because it has so much meaning. Since I don't have one to inherit, I will have to search yard sales and craigslist. Oh and move into a bigger place to live!

Monday Flowers/uh-oh

So today, just watching the news and making dinner and all of a sudden... BAM. How old am I? I even had to ask mom. "Mom, how old did I turn this year?" she said "24". WHAT THE HELL. You guys I have been in total complete denial about my age. I think that it is even possible that I told people I was turning 23 and ACTUALLY thinking that was correct. Oh. My. Lord. I am totally aware that 24 is not old but somehow it smacked me in the face today. I blame it on the car accident that must have erased my brain cells.

Spring is Coming...

We had WARM (well warm-ish) weather today. While most of you know that I hate summer with a passion (read: sweating, having to wear sleeveless shirts) I do like spring because there thunderstorms and I can go outside without shoes on. Yep, that's basically it for me. What can I say? I'm simple.

He is seriously out of control

Seriously.
